Placebo interactive videoclip

About two months ago, Champagne Valentine won a pitch to make the video clip for the song “The Never-Ending why” from Placebo. In addition to that video clip they also wanted to create an interactive video clip. Random teamed up with them and with lots of hard work from lots of talented people the result ended up to be awesome. To check out the original video clip, click here. Placebo interactive videoclip

The cool thing about the project was that lots of Flash animation and scripted animations are use in the normal video clip, for which we had to create tools to record the motion first, and later render it out frame by frame in flash. The animations I worked on (both linear and interactive) are the squid scene and the tunnel scenes.

Johma

This week we (me and Dave) finished a project for Johma to celebrate their 40 year existence. As you can see we used the kaleidoscope I experimented with earlier. I also did the architecture of the site. Lemon scented tea made the design and Dave did all the animations for the menu, buttons etc. Check it out here.

LanguageTool version 0.5

In a lot of my projects I use my own created language package. The language package manages different pieces of text for multiple languages at the same time. The text is stored in xml files which can be edited later without having to recompile the flash application. It also allows you to switch between different cultures dynamically.

Even though it was already a lot easier to edit text after an application was published, a lot people that had to edit the xml files had trouble doing it correctly, which caused corrupt xml files. Thats the reason why I created the LanguageTool which allows a more visual way of editing and doesn’t allow for mistakes to happen. It is still work in progress, but it should function just fine. There is an update function in the application which lets you check for updates. Download the language package, tool and example here.

180 Amsterdam

Today the new website of 180 Amsterdam went live. I worked on it in October 2008 with the guys at random.nu. Just a little of what I  programmed back then actually made it to the final version except for some of some of the structure of the website and a couple of informational pages. Result looks great anyway :) . Jump to the 180 website by clicking here and check out one of the prototypes here.

Axe Instinct roar tool

Yesterday for Hyves, and today for Netlog and Skyrock the Axe Instinct “Roar tool” is available as an Open Social gadget. I worked on it with the guys at Mediarepublic since mid January. It enables users to record their best “roar” with a microphone, choose a theme and tweak the roar with the actionscript 3.0 Popforge library before sending it to a friend. Its fun to do and the idea is to show off your cavemen instincts to your friends, or to just send a funny message. Check it out here. (Hyves, Netlog or Skyrock account required).

In November and December 2008 I was 2 months in Chengdu (China) to help Thijs Bosma start his flash game company. During that 2 month period I worked on several different projects. One of them was this small and simple game for the Veltive website. You can play the game here.
