Heinz First Harvest

Boondoggle Amsterdam asked us (Random Studio) to help think of, and create a website to promote the new Heinz First Harvest product. Heinz First Harvest is a once in a year limited edition of the a tastier Heinz ketchup, for which only the best products are used. Through the website the users can get information about the production process, from the planting of the seed until the botteling. We made a highly interactive plant, which grows over time, unlocking new content. Weather conditions are loaded in dynamically to reflect the current situation of the plants.

The campaign also had two competitions that used Facebook connect. The first was giving away 300 of the Heinz First Harvest bottles. The second competition element used the unique code on each bottle to win a trip to Lisbon in Portugal. The whole campaign is currently running in 6 countries, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Sweden and Spain.

Below you can find the promotion video for the campaign, created by Boondoggle Amsterdam:

WSBF~ Poetry tool

A good friend of Random Studio, thisissaf.com, asked if we could create a poetry tool to fortify his brand “When seven becomes fourteen”. I took it upon myself to create the website from backend to frontend including social network integration. With only a week of development time there is certainly room for improvement, but I’m sure we’ll do some updates soon. You’re a poet and you know it, so start over here.

Gazelle Twin interactive album

Beginning of juli 2011, Gazelle Twin launched an interactive album to promote their new album “The entire city”. Champagne Valentine is responsible for the art direction and I was the programmer at Random Studio to breath life into it all. You can see the interactive album with your own eyes over here.

Random Studio portfolio site

Finally we launched our new site for Random Studio. The site shows of both projects and experiments in a quick and responsive way. I did the original development architecture and animation style but everybody at Random participated in the development of this site. It was a tough cookie to crack, but in the end I am very pleased with the result. I also created the two initial experiments: The weather man, and Message in a bottle. The site is backed up by a shadow html site, for all the people that haven’t installed Flash on their devices (iPad/iPhone), but the design for that still needs some work.

In the woods

After working on this project for some time (postponing the deadline, client changes etc), we finally put it live last week. In the woods is a teaser website for the first part of a trilogy that will be released later this year (or next year). The original request from the client was to build a 3D forest in Flash, that was not going to happen :) , so I suggested to use a parallax effect instead, combined with a forward motion. The result turned out quite nice as you can see here www.itwpathway.com. Prepare for a lot of loading though, since a lot of graphics have to be loaded for each section.

Nuon CO2 OK

Latest project. A small website, filled with animations, to trigger people to change to green energy from Nuon.

Philips MSS 2009

My first month as a partner at Random is over and my first project is finished. We had to make a campaign website for the Philips MSS shaver. The idea was to use your webcam and a face recognition algorithm to “scan” your face so the shaver could attach itself to your face. Shaving your face also triggers panels on the right side to explain the unique features of the shaver. People without a webcam can shave the face of a model instead. Check out the website over here, or watch the video below.

Alex – Red 5 live video chat

Last month I’ve been working on a live video chat application for Alex. The goal is to let the current clients of the bank to be ambassadors for potential new clients. The application uses Red 5 to support the live video and chat messages. The whole project consists out of three separate applications:

  • The moderator application
  • The ambassador application
  • The client application

The moderator application collects all question asked in the client application, after which they have to be approved before being send to the ambassador application. The ambassador answers the question through the web cam stream. Check the video below for a recorded example of the client application.

House of orange

Yesterday, a new website I’ve been working on with the guys from Random went live. It is the portfolio site for the modeling, photographer and stylist agency House of orange. For this site I created the architecture and data communication, as well as the menu and the collage view (e.g. the landing page). An extensive CMS is backing up the website for easy maintenance. Users can add their favorite images to a lightbox after which the lightbox can be downloaded onto their computer. You can check the website here.

Placebo interactive videoclip

About two months ago, Champagne Valentine won a pitch to make the video clip for the song “The Never-Ending why” from Placebo. In addition to that video clip they also wanted to create an interactive video clip. Random teamed up with them and with lots of hard work from lots of talented people the result ended up to be awesome. To check out the original video clip, click here. To check out the interactive video clip, click here.

Placebo interactive videoclip

The cool thing about the project was that lots of Flash animation and scripted animations are use in the normal video clip, for which we had to create tools to record the motion first, and later render it out frame by frame in flash. The animations I worked on (both linear and interactive) are the squid scene and the tunnel scenes.
